My idea behind this goes back to the fact that Clark can’t cut his hair cause his impenetrable. But he also like tattoos, so the whole lack of vulnerability is a problem. Hal showed him a place that does body art for all species and was able to give him the look he wanted.

Short version, if Clark could have tattoos this is what it would look like.
